| well, i watched the notebook. i saw it with kim, so naturally i payed attention. my first impression was that it'd be a mushy chick flick, which it was. i read the book before this, but i read it really fast, mostly skimming it. i only did this because my cousin read it and she really wanted me to (i always give in to family). comparing the movie to the book, the movie was horrible! the book was way better and i can only remember 33.33333....% (1/3) of it. but i wont hold that against the movie. usually the books r better, and this is true for any movie.
what i didnt like about the movie was the poor acting. i didnt think they did a very good job at all. but its a love story, and love stories r usually hard to act. a good allie would be a southern bell. i hate to praise jessica simpson, but she would have been good for it (but then i wouldnt have watched it! no matter how much my girlfriend protested!). but any youngish blonde southern girl "icecream social" would have worked. a good noah would be a mix between a YOUNG blonde tom cruise, johnny depp (his acting skills...which r amazing), and MAYBE leonardo dicaprio. well, enough of my acting rants.
the sex scenes were cheesy. really. they acted like 2 extremely horny animals in heat. it was kind of a turn off. the way allie acted around noah's former girlfriend was a little creepy. she was too happy to see her. can we say 3sum? no but really, the sex scenes ruined it. the movie was kind of rushed. u didnt really "get to know" ur characters. it was more like a play. because in plays, u dont really get up close and personal with ur characters. in movies, ur RIGHT IN THEIR FACES and u relate to them and basically live the story. not in this movie.
but i'll add in good stuff. i liked the old people. they did a really good job of acting. the man did a nice job of giving clues that the woman was allie. the woman was really good when she remembered noah but then forgot him. good job old people! the younger allie and noah had very cute moments. they showed that off well. but then when they got older, it just went away. i didnt see any romance. i know the book wasnt like this. i liked noahs dad. he reminded me of my own parents, so that was a good job. the story in general is very bittersweet and romantic, but the director of the movie didnt think this up. that was mr. sparks. so the movie doesnt get that credit. however, they improvised somethings very well, while messing other stuff up. but the old people saved the show.
its a good movie to watch with a loved one, but not by urself (especially if ur a heterosexual male). i enjoyed watching it with my girlfriend. it gave me very nice thoughts. and it made her happy. anything that makes her happy is very good.
